A Guide to Mount the X6200 on a Tripod

After reading a question on the X6200 groups.io list about how to fix the X6200 to a photo tripod. I thought to myself, I didn't see a connection for a tripod on the radio and I was right. Apparently the ICOM IC-705 has one.

Then I had an idea and using the two components I did not use from the Radioddity RH1 cup holder mount kit that I adapted to hold my G106 radio, (see the other blog post on that small project). I was able to create a tripod connection piece for the X6200.

Here are a few pictures to show the simple creation of this addition:

Take the belt-clip bracket from the cup-holder-adapter pack and drill a hole through the "O" of Radioddity:

Now take the swivel joint from the Coffee Cup kit and unscrew the ring:

Thread the swivel mount into the belt clip mount and screw the ring back on the other side.

Now, as luck would have it (actually, I checked first) the screw holes on the belt clip bracket are exactly the same distance apart as the screws that hold the bottom plate on the X6200, so with some longer screws of the same diameter and thread pitch of the cover plate screws, this bracket is attached to the bottom of the X6200. BUT BE CAREFUL - the screws used must not be so long that they can damage the circuit board components under the plate, which will affect the warranty.

The swivel mount can now screw onto a standard photo tripod.
